About
I had the privilege to be part of the Nomu Cyber Graduation Ceremony as one of the mentors, honoring the remarkable achievements of 70 skilled Arab cybersecurity professionals!
Immense thanks to the Abdulla Al Ghurair Foundation for investing in new talent, as we all should, and to Sprints for the invitation and the opportunity to interact with these eager young talents.
Agenda
In my pursuit to payback to the community and empower graduates in the field of cybersecurity, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to participate in the mentoring sessions of an event that graduated 70 specialists, through two main sessions: Mentorship Circles and Group Mock Interviews.
Mentorship Circles:
- The purpose of this session was to provide graduates with the opportunity to ask questions related to the cybersecurity job market and understand the nature of available opportunities.
- The graduates were organized around circular tables, each accommodating between 7 to 10 graduates, led by an expert in the field.
- The expert introduced himself, his background, and experience, then explained the nature of the job market in the UAE, the available positions, and how to secure a job opportunity.
- The graduates were given the chance to ask questions, and after 20 minutes, the tables were rotated to refresh the dialogue.
Group Mock Interviews:
- The objective of this session was to simulate the real interviews that graduates undergo when applying for cybersecurity job positions, thereby understanding how to be prepared for them and succeed.
- The same circular table organization was used, where the expert explained the nature of technical interviews, the areas that employers focus on, and the biggest mistakes to avoid.
- The expert then posed a common interview question, received a couple of answers from the graduates, then provided the ideal correct answer to be used in actual interviews.
- After 20 minutes, the tables were rotated again to enhance the educational experience.
This event was a valuable opportunity for our graduates to familiarize themselves with the job market, enhance their presentation skills, and better prepare for the challenges of working in the field of cybersecurity.
